NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOL ACCREDIDATION
The administration at Zion Lutheran School applied for accreditation with the only national accrediting agency in the country. The National Lutheran School Accreditation of St. Louis seeks to qualify schools that follow stringent standards in 11 different areas. The process went into full swing last January by affirmation of Zion’s Board of Parish Education. With this, the school involved itself in a comprehensive self-study followed by an on-site visitation by a team of four educators. The site review team visited Zion in action on April 15-16 and included Stu Tietz, principal at Faith Lutheran in Lincoln; Jane Brummels, elementary principal at Osmond Public School; Tiffany Guenther, primary teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Osmond; and Sarah Masters, an elementary teacher from St. John’s, Battle Creek.

Once the site review team finished compiling their appraisal, they gave a verbal exit report. In this report, team captain, Stu Tietz, indicated to all who were present that Zion be fully accredited. Mr. Tietz also indicated that the school improvement process was just beginning. In order to remain accredited, Zion must continue to work toward improving its curriculum by formulating written standards of instruction. Each year for the next 5 years, Zion will report on its improvement plan by submitting an annual report.

The NSLA Commission will receive and act upon the recommendation of the site review team and make its final determination in August.
