School House

The school house located on the museum complex was originally School District 7 of Pierce County, located southeast of Pierce.

School District 7 - 1948

Ferdinand Verges promoted the formation of the district which was officially entered in the county superintendent's book March 15, 1873. First meeting was held in the Verges home March 22, 1873 with H. R. Mevis elected Moderator, P. Shaughnessey director and Mr. Verges treasurer.

The group voted to have school in session three months of each year and the building was erected on one acre of land donated by P. Shaughnessey. The first school census revealed 13 children of school age.

Charles Hoffmann was later elected treasurer and held this office until he was 92 years of age.

The teacher's desk, captain's chair, orange crate bookcases, some books and pictures are originals of the school.

The district remained in operation until July 1, 1968 when it was merged with Pierce District 2.

District 7 is still used occasionally by local schools who experience attending a day of school in a one room school house.
